Adtran has announced a new collaboration with Fastr Broadband to deliver high-speed, full-fibre internet to York. The initiative aims to enhance both residential and commercial internet services in the historic city, known for its rich heritage and picturesque streets.
The partnership focuses on leveraging Adtran’s advanced technology to meet the city’s unique needs. Adtran’s open and programmable Combo PON technology is central to this project, enabling Fastr Broadband to offer high-speed symmetrical services. This includes the deployment of Adtran’s SDX 6330 software-defined optical line terminals (OLTs), which ensure efficient and scalable network growth while maintaining a compact, energy-efficient design.
Pete Evans, Director at Fastr Broadband, highlighted the significance of this project for York. “York is a city with enduring cultural significance,” he said. “We needed a partner who could help us advance its digital future while preserving its heritage. Adtran’s technology has been instrumental in designing and building a solution tailored to York’s requirements, and their support has been crucial in migrating our customers to the new network.”
The deployment includes Adtran’s Mosaic Cloud Platform (Mosaic CP), which provides full Software-Defined Networking (SDN) control over the infrastructure. This platform offers a flexible and agile framework for managing the network, facilitating quicker deployments and reduced maintenance. The SDX 6330 OLT, with its 10Gbit/s 48-port capability, supports the versatile Combo PON standard, making it well-suited for York’s dense urban environment. Its compact and modular design allows for discreet installation, crucial for maintaining the city’s historic character.
In addition to providing high-speed internet, the new network also aims to enhance Wi-Fi coverage throughout homes and businesses in York. This upgrade promises to offer both reliable connections and affordable access to top-tier symmetrical services.
Stuart Broome, General Manager of EMEA Sales at Adtran, expressed enthusiasm about the project. “Our team has strong ties to York, and we are delighted to help Fastr Broadband expand advanced broadband services in the city,” he said. “Our SDX 6330 OLT and flexible Combo PON platform are ideal for addressing the challenges of dense urban environments while respecting York’s historical context. We’re committed to supporting Fastr Broadband in providing ongoing access to ultra-fast services.”
This rollout marks a significant step in enhancing York’s digital infrastructure, offering residents and businesses a robust and future-proof broadband solution. The collaboration between Adtran and Fastr Broadband underscores a commitment to blending cutting-edge technology with the preservation of the city’s unique heritage.
