Thunes, the global payment network, has unveiled a new capability that allows banks to access over 3 billion mobile wallets worldwide through their existing SWIFT connections. This advancement is part of Thunes’ proprietary Direct Global Network, aimed at simplifying cross-border payments for financial institutions.
The new feature enables banks connected to the SWIFT network to become members of Thunes’ Direct Global Network, allowing them to process fast, transparent, and reliable payments directly to 120 mobile wallet brands without the need for separate technical integration with Thunes. With this enhancement, financial institutions can now send instant payments to mobile wallets in over 130 countries and across 80 currencies.
By leveraging Thunes’ Direct Global Network through their current SWIFT connectivity, banks can streamline their operations, sending payments with minimal technical adjustments. This capability not only expedites transactions but also reduces operational complexities for financial institutions.
In addition to enhanced payment processing, financial institutions will gain access to Thunes’ SmartX Treasury System and Fortress Compliance Platform. These tools offer improved speed, control, visibility, protection, and cost efficiencies for real-time payments to mobile wallets.
Thunes’ integration with SWIFT’s financial messaging services enables financial institutions to conduct seamless cross-border transactions, enhancing financial inclusion in markets where mobile wallet usage is on the rise. This initiative specifically targets billions of underbanked individuals, granting them access to the global financial system.
Floris de Kort, CEO of Thunes, stated, “Opening our Direct Global Network Membership to the banking community perfectly aligns with our mission to make the global economy accessible to all. We’re transforming the cross-border payment experience for financial institutions and their customers, building bridges between bank and wallet ecosystems to facilitate frictionless payments in previously unreached regions.”
Chloé Mayenobe, President and COO at Thunes, added, “By connecting to Thunes’ Direct Global Network, we’re unlocking new possibilities for the banking community, expanding their reach into the world of mobile wallets. This solution enables seamless, real-time cross-border payments to over 3 billion mobile wallets, empowering financial institutions to deliver faster, more transparent transactions while enhancing financial inclusion in underserved regions. We are advancing the future of global payments, providing greater choice and accessibility for billions of people.”
The launch of this new capability reflects Thunes’ commitment to fostering greater financial inclusion and accessibility in the global payments landscape. By connecting banks to a vast network of mobile wallets, Thunes aims to facilitate faster and more reliable transactions for individuals and businesses alike.
As mobile wallet usage continues to grow, Thunes’ Direct Global Network positions itself as a key player in the evolution of cross-border payment solutions, making it easier for financial institutions to meet the needs of their customers in an increasingly digital world.
