The Second World Ice and Snow Economy of Cold Regions Conference kicked off on December 19 at the BEIDAU Ski Resort in Jilin City, China, marking a significant step towards boosting the ice and snow economy in cold regions.
Hu Yuting, representing the Jilin Provincial Party Committee and provincial government, welcomed guests to the event and expressed appreciation for the support from various sectors towards the revitalisation of Jilin. In his opening address, Hu emphasised the importance of the ice and snow economy as a driving force for the region’s economic development. He also outlined the significance of the conference’s theme, “PROSPER THE ICE AND SNOW ECONOMY, JOIN HANDS FOR A WIN-WIN FUTURE,” which aims to foster international collaboration, explore innovative industrial partnerships, and promote new opportunities for ice and snow tourism and consumption.
Hu pointed out that the conference served as a vital platform for international exchange and cooperation. He noted that Jilin, with its abundant natural resources, such as powder snow, vast forests, rime ice, and hot springs, offers unique advantages for developing ice and snow tourism. These natural features, coupled with the branding of Snow all over Changbai Mountain, present a tremendous opportunity to attract both domestic and international tourists.
“Jilin warmly welcomes visitors, both local and international, to experience our winter wonderland,” Hu said. “Our goal is to ensure that tourists not only enjoy their visit but also leave with lasting memories, fully satisfied with the services and experiences we offer.”
The event also highlighted the growing importance of ice and snow tourism, as well as related industries such as snow equipment development, winter sports, and cultural exchange. Jilin aims to further develop and refine its ice and snow tourism offerings, promote ice and snow consumption, and create an environment where winter sports and ice culture can thrive.
During the conference, Hu extended an invitation to global stakeholders, encouraging them to join forces and explore new opportunities for the ice and snow industry. He expressed confidence that by working together, the conference participants could help accelerate the development of this sector, benefiting both local economies and global tourism markets. The conference, Hu noted, was designed to foster mutual cooperation, leverage each party’s strengths, and achieve win-win outcomes for all involved.
The Second World Ice and Snow Economy Conference is expected to help boost Jilin’s profile as a premier winter tourism destination and drive growth in the wider cold region economy. The event has attracted international industry leaders, business representatives, and government officials, all eager to explore the potential of the booming ice and snow economy.
As the conference continues, organisers hope to create lasting partnerships that will lay the foundation for future growth and innovation in the global ice and snow sector.
