Moody’s Corporation has announced the appointment of Marc Pinto as the new Global Head of Private Credit for Moody’s Ratings. Pinto, who has held several prominent roles at Moody’s over the years, will now lead the company’s research and rating efforts in the private credit sector. This position will see him continuing his leadership as co-head of the global insurance team.
Pinto’s new role places him at the forefront of Moody’s growing focus on private credit, a market that has gained significant traction in recent years. As Global Head of Private Credit, Pinto will oversee the company’s research and ratings in areas such as fund finance, private asset-backed securities (ABS), and privately placed investment-grade corporate assets, further cementing Moody’s commitment to expanding its analytical capabilities in the private credit industry.
Expanding Moody’s Analytical Reach
Michael West, President of Moody’s Ratings, praised Pinto’s appointment, emphasising that his leadership experience and deep industry knowledge would be pivotal in advancing the company’s private credit strategy. “By leveraging his extensive industry and leadership experience, Marc will play a critical role in further expanding our robust analytical capabilities, enhancing our market experience and driving our private credit strategy forward,” West said.
Pinto’s extensive expertise in the insurance industry will also play an important role in shaping Moody’s thought leadership as the ties between asset managers and insurance companies continue to grow. With a strong background in insurance, Pinto will help integrate Moody’s private credit efforts with other key financial sectors, including corporate finance, financial institutions, and structured finance.
A Long-standing Career at Moody’s
Pinto has been with Moody’s for several years, having held leadership positions that include Global Head of Funds & Asset Management and Chief Credit Policy Officer for North American banks. His vast experience in analytical leadership and credit policy has prepared him for this expanded role, which will require him to guide the direction of Moody’s private credit research and ratings as the sector continues to evolve.
A Chartered Financial Analyst, Pinto is also an alumnus of Columbia Business School and Trinity College in Connecticut. His appointment highlights Moody’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its leadership in both traditional and emerging areas of credit ratings.
Private Credit’s Growing Importance
The appointment comes at a time when private credit has become an increasingly important part of the global financial landscape. The rise of private asset-backed securities and other privately placed investments has prompted firms like Moody’s to focus more attention on these areas, ensuring that they continue to provide accurate and insightful ratings and research for investors and financial institutions.
Pinto’s leadership is expected to further solidify Moody’s position as a key player in the evolving private credit market, while also enhancing the company’s ability to serve its clients in an increasingly complex financial world.
