A new book aims to help business leaders overcome the challenges of data analytics and unlock real value from their data. Drive RAPPID Results From Data, written by data analytics experts Zjaén Coetzee and Karl Dinkelmann, introduces a structured methodology to build data-confidence and ensure organisations make the most of their data investments.
With the global Big Data analytics market estimated to have reached $348.21 billion in 2025, businesses are increasingly looking to data-driven strategies for growth. However, research suggests that 87% of data science projects never make it into production, leaving many organisations struggling to translate data into meaningful business outcomes.
Coetzee and Dinkelmann, who have nearly 40 years of combined experience in data analytics, recognised a common challenge: many organisations suffer from decision paralysis when it comes to using data effectively. Their new book addresses this issue by offering a framework designed to help executives make informed investment decisions and avoid common pitfalls.
Building data-confidence at the leadership level
At the core of Drive RAPPID Results From Data is the argument that businesses should not simply be data-driven, but value-driven and enabled by data. The authors warn that many organisations rush into data technology investments due to ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO), often leading to high failure rates. Instead, they advocate for a structured approach that prioritises business value, ensuring that C-level executives develop the confidence to make data-informed decisions.
To help achieve this, the book introduces the RAPPID Value Cycle—a six-step methodology designed to guide companies through a successful data analytics journey. It begins with recognising value by defining clear business objectives before implementing a sustainable delivery model for data analytics. The framework also highlights the importance of fostering collaboration between departments, optimising platforms for value, and ensuring that investment in insights is justified with measurable outcomes.
Strengthening leadership and data collaboration
A key focus of the book is the role of Chief Data Officers (CDOs) and Chief Data and Analytics Officers (CDAOs) in shaping an organisation’s data strategy. Coetzee and Dinkelmann argue that CDOs should be able to communicate the value of data analytics in the same way that Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) articulate financial strategy. By increasing collaboration between leadership teams and data executives, businesses can ensure that data is embedded in every aspect of decision-making.
The authors stress that ‘data is everyone’s business’, and companies that successfully integrate data-led strategies into their organisational culture will gain a competitive advantage.
Drive RAPPID Results From Data is aimed at executives, founders, and business leaders who want to harness data for long-term growth. By following the RAPPID methodology, organisations can develop a structured approach to data analytics, ultimately turning insights into tangible business success.
