Research conducted by customised jewellery experts at Glamira.co.uk used Google Keyword Planner to analyse the search volumes for various non-diamond gemstones, highlighting the nation’s evolving preferences.
Emerald rings emerged as the most popular alternative, attracting an impressive 38,022 searches each month. Notably, the city of Wakefield leads the way, with an average of 86.09 searches per 100,000 people. The vivid green hue of emeralds is steeped in history and symbolism, representing royalty, beauty, and true love.
In second place are sapphires, which garnered an average of 29,810 searches per month. Wakefield again tops the list for sapphire searches, with 66.96 searches per 100,000 residents. Known for their deep blue colour, sapphires have historically been associated with joy, prosperity, and protection, making them a cherished choice for rings.
Moissanite, a gemstone that closely resembles diamonds but is more ethically sourced, ranks third with 22,761 monthly searches. Residents of Preston show the greatest interest, with 64.51 searches per 100,000 people. Moissanite is renowned for its durability and stunning appearance, symbolising strength, passion, and devotion.
Opals are in fourth place, attracting an average of 18,962 searches monthly. Rochdale ranks highest for opal ring searches, with 43.35 per 100,000 residents. Opals are celebrated for their unique ‘play-of-colour,’ shifting hues depending on light. They represent love, passion, and desire, making them a captivating alternative to traditional diamonds.
Rubies claim fifth place with 15,744 average monthly searches. Mansfield leads the way, with 39.23 searches per 100,000 people. The deep red colour of rubies is associated with passion and wealth, making them a powerful symbol for those looking to express strong emotions.
Aquamarine takes sixth place, receiving 12,816 monthly searches. In Lincoln, the oceanic hues of aquamarine attract 29.22 searches per 100,000 people. This gemstone embodies tranquillity and purity, drawing upon myths and legends related to the sea.
Coral rings, another stunning alternative, come seventh with an average of 11,379 searches. Bournemouth residents show the most interest, with 50 searches per month per 100,000 people. Known for their vibrant colours, coral represents joy and wisdom.
Pearls rank eighth, with 10,704 searches monthly. Hove, a seaside town, leads in pearl ring searches at 31.91 per 100,000 residents. Pearls, formed from organic matter in the ocean, symbolise loyalty and purity.
Amethysts are ninth, accumulating 8,549 searches a month. Known for their calming purple shades, amethysts are believed to aid spiritual healing. Rounding out the top ten is tanzanite, which receives 6,745 monthly searches, known for its ability to transform negative energy into positive.
