In a thought-provoking survey conducted by Layered Reality, the company behind Jeff Wayne’s The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience, it emerged that many Brits feel unprepared for a hypothetical Martian invasion. The poll, which included 2,000 participants, found that a significant portion of the population doubts their chances of survival in the event of an extraterrestrial attack.
According to the survey, a third of those polled believed they would not survive if hostile Martians were to invade Earth. Furthermore, one in three respondents felt they would be fortunate to last more than a month, while only 10% expressed confidence in surviving for over a year.
When asked about their immediate reactions to a Martian landing, 26% said they would prioritise finding friends and family, followed by 20% who would look for essential supplies, and 18% who would choose to run or hide. Interestingly, 10% claimed they would attempt to greet the Martians, while 11% said they would ask to be taken back to Mars. A smaller percentage, 5%, admitted they might get intimate with the nearest human in such a crisis.
The survey further revealed that four in ten participants would focus on saving their children or partners first during a Martian invasion, while 33% indicated they would save themselves. Notably, one in five respondents stated they would save their pets before anyone else.
Andrew McGuinness, CEO of Layered Reality, commented on the survey’s findings. “Extraterrestrial life remains one of the world’s biggest curiosities, so it’s no wonder that Brits today are contemplating the possibility of an invasion,” he said. He highlighted how Layered Reality’s immersive experience allows visitors to travel back to 1898 and engage with the classic tale of The War of The Worlds. This experience allows participants to navigate a Martian-occupied Victorian England while enjoying Jeff Wayne’s iconic musical score.
In an effort to equip the public with survival skills, Layered Reality announced the launch of a series of free Martian survival events throughout September. These events included expert talks on extraterrestrial life and a survival station offering practical tips and advice for facing a potential invasion. Despite one-third of respondents stating they thought about Earth being invaded by Martians at least once a year, an alarming 60% expressed feeling unprepared for such an event.
The Martian survival events took place on various dates throughout September, with more information available on the immersive experience’s official website. Additionally, those interested in testing their survival skills at Jeff Wayne’s The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience were offered a special promotion, allowing them to purchase two or more general admission tickets for just £5 until December 1, 2024, using the discount code MARTIAN2X7C at checkout.
