Worldline, a global leader in payment services, has teamed up with specialised payment provider Online Payment Platform (OPP) to launch an Embedded Payments solution across Europe. This new collaboration aims to support platforms and marketplaces with advanced payment capabilities, streamlining transactions and enhancing user experience.
The joint venture between Worldline and OPP is designed to address the complexities that platforms and marketplaces often face when handling payments. The Embedded Payments solution provides features such as split payments, escrow services, and mediation handling, making it easier for businesses to navigate these challenges.
At the core of the solution is OPP’s specialised payment technology, which was built specifically for platforms. By combining this with Worldline’s acquiring expertise and point-of-sale capabilities, the solution provides a robust, all-in-one payment system. It allows businesses to integrate quickly, sell across multiple currencies, and ensure faster payments for their users.
A key advantage of the solution is its capacity to support a wide range of payment methods, ensuring a seamless experience for users across different markets. Platforms using the Embedded Payments solution will benefit from local support services, enabling them to operate smoothly across the European Union, the UK, and beyond.
In addition to its functionality, the solution is designed to be fully compliant with EU and UK regulatory standards. This, in turn, helps reduce fraud and increases trust, especially in the onboarding process for both businesses and consumers.
Marc-Henri Desportes, Chief Executive Officer at Worldline, highlighted the significance of the partnership. “Our collaboration with OPP underscores our commitment to driving innovation in the payments industry,” he said. “By merging OPP’s platform capabilities with our acquiring expertise, we are creating a payments system that offers platforms and marketplaces new ways to unlock revenue and better engage users.”
Richard Straver, Founder of OPP, echoed this sentiment. “We are proud to set a new benchmark in the payments landscape with this solution,” he said. “By working with Worldline, we’re able to offer a seamless, efficient experience that not only facilitates transactions but also supports trust and security with key features such as escrow and mediation.”
The companies are already planning further developments, including integrating Tap on Mobile technology and expanding point-of-sale features to enhance payment experiences even further.
The Embedded Payments solution will first be rolled out across the EU, with plans for expansion into the UK and Switzerland. Worldline’s recent acquisition of an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence for the UK is seen as a critical step towards this goal.
Worldline and OPP will officially unveil the new solution at an event titled “The New Embedded Payments. Designed for Visionaries.” The launch will take place on 22 October 2024 at Worldline’s Innovation Experience Centre, located at their Paris-La Défense headquarters. The event will also be broadcast online, allowing a broader audience to explore the future of payments for platforms and marketplaces.
